On February 1, 2010, London’s venerable Daily Express newspaper reported the results of Australian research studying the effects of ultraviolet rays on mice. University of Sydney researchers set out to see if goji, a known immune enhancer, might be able to counteract the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.

The mice in the study were divided into two groups: the “Goji Group” was given Himalayan Goji Juice mixed into their drinking water; and the “Control Group” received either apple or pear juice in their drinking water. After UV exposure, the mice in the Control Group developed sunburn, which was accompanied by inflammation and edema (swelling and fluid retention) just like you would have if you had been a bit careless about sunbathing without enough sunscreen.

But what happened to the mice in the Goji Group? As reported in the Express article, “the inflammatory sunburn reaction was strongly reduced.” And this was with just 5 percent goji juice mixed into their water!

According to lead researcher (and FreeLife Scientific Advisory Board member) Dr. Vivienne Reeve, goji’s action is two-fold. Dr. Reeve’s groundbreaking study will be published in the upcoming issue of the respected peer-reviewed journal Photochemical and Photobiological Sciences, a publication of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Animal studies cannot guarantee identical results in humans, but they are an important first step. Dr. Reeve believes that “goji berry juice might prove useful in susceptible humans.”

So first, you need to have a goal and be passionate about it.

Second is to “THANK” about it. In a word: GRATITUDE. Gratitude is thankfulness.

Freelife Marketing Executive Bikes For Charity

Although Director David Weigel is a relatively new member of the FreeLife Family, he has already fully embraced FreeLife’s passion and commitment to children. After three educational and fun-filled days in Orlando, Florida, at FreeLife’s SERVE 2007 Convention, David was ready for the next big challenge in his life. Rather than board a flight for his journey back to Maine, David mounted his bike instead to make the 2000-mile trek—all the while raising money for one of his favorite organizations—the Children’s Miracle Network.

David’s journey lasted 24 days and took him through 11 states, ending in Bangor, Maine, at the Eastern Maine Medical Center (one of seven state hospitals which Children’s Miracle Network donations benefit). David even managed to lose 12 pounds!

At 47 years of age, David was a bit apprehensive to attempt such a grueling trip. However, after discovering the power of Himalayan Goji Juice, he was determined to accomplish his goal. “I wanted to set an example for kids in particular who spend too much time drinking soda in front of video games,” said Weigel. “I really want to encourage young people to get out in the world, to play sports, to ride a bicycle, to work their bodies while they get a good chance to.”

Since the start of his trip on September 16, David’s efforts have raised hundreds of dollars. Pledges and donations came from across the country (most notably in Maine).
